Demographic transition model chart

The Demographic Transition Model (DTM) All areas/regions experience changes in their population demographics at different times and different rates. Although rates vary from place to place, a similar process of change can be tracked. A model has been created to chart and predict these changes The Demographic Transition Model poster shows a DTM depicting how the population of a country changes over time and how this relates to its level of development. The DTM is accompanied by useful explanations of the 5 stages, covering birth rates, death rates and natural increase rates. The large wall chart provides a brilliant overview of the Demographic = to do with population Transition = Change Model = in Geography, a model is a simplified way of looking at the world to make it easier to understand. The Demographic Transition Model is a simplified way of looking at how population is changing and has changed around the world. It focuses on birth rates, death rates and natural increase.

The Demographic Transition Model (DTM) is based on historical population trends of two demographic characteristics – birth rate and death rate – to suggest that a country’s total population growth rate cycles through stages as that country develops economically. Each stage is characterized by a specific relationship between birth rate (number of annual births per one thousand people) and death rate (number of annual deaths per one thousand people). ADVERTISEMENTS: Theory of Demographic Transition is a theory that throws light on changes in birth rate and death rate and consequently on the growth-rate of population. Along with the economic development, tendencies of birth-rate and death rate are different. Because of it, growth rate of population is also different. The demographic transition model seeks to explain the transformation of countries from having high birth and death rates to low birth and death rates. In developed countries, this transition began in the eighteenth century and continues today.
